Daniel Blendulf
Cello
Swedish musician Daniel Blendulf has developed a distinguished career as both cellist and conductor. He studied the cello with Torleif Thedéen at the Stockholm Edsberg Institute of Music and continued his studies with Heinrich Schiff at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. In 2006, he was nominated as an ECHO Rising Star, subsequently appearing at major concert venues across Europe and at New York’s Carnegie Hall. As a soloist, he has performed with conductors including Gustavo Dudamel, Jesús López Cobos and Andrew Manze.
Blendulf was a member of the Zkvartett String Quartet, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra under Claudio Abbado. His chamber music partners have included Janine Jansen, Timothy Ridout, Denis Kozhukhin and Amihai Grosz. Recent and current festival appearances include the Verbier Festival, Verbier Festival Shenzhen, the International Chamber Music Festival Utrecht, Sion Festival and Beare’s Festival London.
Alongside his work as a cellist, Blendulf has pursued a significant conducting career. In 2014, he received the Herbert Blomstedt Prize for conducting. He has worked with orchestras including the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Camerata Salzburg and Queensland Symphony Orchestra. He also served as Chief Conductor and Artistic Advisor of Dalasinfoniettan in Sweden, collaborating on numerous projects, including a tour of Japan with cellist Torleif Thedéen.
Daniel Blendulf plays a 1791 Vincenzo Panormo cello acquired through the Beare’s International Violin Society.
