Between 8 and 22 September, the beautiful Tsinandali Estate in Kakheti, eastern Georgia, will become home to an exciting new classical music festival, and you could be there to see it all. The Tsinandali Festival will draw together some of the greatest musicians from the east and west for a series of unforgettable performances. Its primary purpose, however, is to create rare opportunities for young musicians from the Caucusus region, as well as some of Georgia’s neighbouring countries. From electrifying performances to luxurious accommodation, along with some thoroughly good wine, here are five reasons why it looks to be one of the European calendar’s new unmissable events.
From Georgia with love
At the heart of the festival is the Pan-Caucasian Youth Orchestra – a full 80-member symphony orchestra led by Music Director Gianandrea Noseda, which is making its debut this year. The orchestra marks the first ever unified programme to support emerging musical talents from Georgia, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Turkey, with the region’s most exciting young musicians being trained for six weeks at the Tsinandali Estate by world-leading musicians.

The Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra is composed of alumni from the Verbier Festival’s artist training programmes, most of whom now grace some of the finest orchestras in the world. The VFCO will be holding several unforgettable concerts throughout the Tsinandali Festival, as well as sharing experiences and rehearsing with the festival’s young musicians
A grand vision
The festival’s Music Director Gianandrea Noseda is one of the world’s most sought-after conductors, equally recognised for his artistry in both the concert hall and opera house and Generalmusikdirektor of Zurich Opera effective in 2021.His recent prestigious titles include Music Director at the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington DC, as well as Principal Guest Conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra and Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. As you can see, the Tsinandali Festival couldn’t be in more capable hands.
Awe-inspiring surroundings
The Tsinandali Estate is a newly renovated, astonishing Georgian landmark, founded in 1690 by the princely Chavchavadze family, of which a poet and public figure Prince Alexandre Chavchavadze is a most prominent representative. The estate is being transformed into a global destination with a newly opened luxury Radisson Collection hotel and spectacular 1,200-seat and 600-seat concert halls, combined with a state-of-the-art winery continuing Georgia’s winemaking heritage, which goes back 8,000 years. With lush, open grounds to explore, the Tsinandali Estate is a truly exquisite setting for classical music.
